Volvo recently achieved the highest mark in the annual Euro NCAP crash tests for the safest large family car of 2011, with the V60 model. The car with the highest overall mark was the Volvo V60 estate, registereing a total of 340 points out of a maximum of 400, awarded by a panel of four judges. It achieved the highest award of 100 points for the safety assist catagory. It appears that it beat some percieved quaility contenders, the Executive class won by an Audi A6 with only 301 points and the Jaguar XF receiving a lowly 285 points. Euro NCAp commended Volvo for offering autonomous Emergency Braking Systems (AEB) which stop the car automatically in the event of an immenent collision. Once again Volvo set a benchmark in safety for which others have to follow.
